That Janet Reid is a clever, clever woman. And no, I'm not saying that just to suck up because I know she has a Google alert on her name.
Read here.
And I'm still not sure what I'm going to do for my 500th post yet. I guess you will have to check back tomorrow and be surprised...
Yeah, I commented on this subject over at Jen's last week. I haven't done book reviews. I certainly don't want to read "just loved it" when the author really thought it sucked, but I figured a person would get "punished" somehow for stating his/her real opinion.
ReplyDeleteJanet's post was good to read because now I see HOW people keep up with who is saying what. Makes perfect sense.
I guess my mother, who has never been on a computer, was right: Never put anything in writing that you don't want everyone to read.
Steph:
ReplyDeleteThat's the thing--I would never ever be dishonest and say that I liked a book when I didn't. And I will definitely pass the word along when I loved a book, as a reader. But IANAR (I am not a reviewer) and I don't claim to be. And I just think it's not a smart move, as someone trying to break into the tight-knit publishing industry, to trash another writer's work. If I don't have something nice to say, you won't hear about it. :)
Oh, and I forgot to say that I get blog hits all the time from authors googling themselves. Even editors of authors I've mentioned! So yeah, they're aware.
