The track, I am back on it

Have you ever not realized how deep a slump you were in until you pulled out of it? You shake yourself off and say man, that sucked, and I didn't even know how badly.

That was me. I was having some issues before the lovely 12-day vacation to Hawaii (yes, there will be more about that with pictures later, once I organize the pictures on the right machine!). I was depressed, listless. I wasn't getting anything done in any part of my life, and I hated myself for it--which then made me continue to not do anything, which made me feel worse... Nasty, nasty cycle.

Anyway, vacation was just the trick. I came back with a clear brain and renewed discipline. Starting the day after we got back, I am:

  • writing every day
  • exercising (30 minutes at least) every day
  • (gasp) taking my calcium :)
Granted it's only been 4 days, but it FEELS different. It feels like I'm myself again, back where I used to be. I like this self. And I think I can keep it up.

You're going to root for me to keep it up, right?

Eventually I will also manage to get back to good twitter habits, email habits, and maybe even blog or blog reading habits (though I don't promise). But I think I've got the important things going.

Yay! Glad you're feeling better! And since I'm not on Twitter, it's lovely to see your pixels around these parts! I miss them! :)

You betcha I'll be rooting for you. All the way, bb!

I think all writers go through slumps like that. Lord knows I have. And you're right -- they're not always apparent until you start to pull out of them. I'm so glad your climbing out of yours. :)

Thanks, Jule!! Good to see you too. :)

Linder: I sure hope so. This one's lasted quite long enough, thanks. I'm sick of it!

Hi Sue!
Gawd yes, me too. But that's fairly typical for February around here. I'm glad you're recovering and feeling better, and keep it up!

Hey, Susan, glad you've picked yourself up. I've been in a similar funk lately and am finally sick enough of it to try to shake it off. Good luck to you--I hope you're able to stick to your routine!

It seems like once you get back into the habit -- one week seems like a milestone achievement. But then it just gets ingrained. And then you start feeling really good, like yourself again. Then you can't imagine NOT doing your new routine because if you miss a day, you remember what it feels like to feel bad again, and that's never a good feeling. It gets easier to just keep doing the good than to revert back.

Keep it up! You can do it.

Great that you're back on track. I've had a way too stressful February so need to get back on track with writing too. And exercising. Always with exercising.

Hang in there, Susan! I've been in a bit of a slump myself lately. I have another book out with publishers, but due to my track record, I've been feeling like the universe is against me when it comes to publishing. Like you, I'm trying to get myself on a writing and exercise routine to feel better. I'll be rooting for you!

Cindy: Ah, winter doldrums, huh? I hadn't even considered that, actually...but yeah. Thank goodness it's better.

Julianne: Thanks--so far, so good. I'll hope for you too!

Kelly: YES, exactly. You just have to get to the point where it's ingrained again. I was ingrained on being lazy there for a while...

Kay: Thanks! Always, I hope.

Shari: Thanks! The rooting HELPS.

Natalie: That darn exercising. But it's amazing how much better it makes you feel. (once you're over the sore-muscle part, ow.)

Cathy: The more comments I read, the more people seem to have been slumping lately! I wonder how big a part winter has in this.

Hugs, Suze. And so glad to hear you're feeling better. Sorry to hear you've been down. I'm still looking up, but hope to find a way out of my slump, soon.

Take care.
Love Deb
