Here it is, my 200th post!! Blabby thing, aren't I?

To celebrate, we're going to do a book giveaway contest. Here's how you enter:

1. Grab a nearby book or manuscript. Writers, feel free to use your own work! Turn to page 200.

2. Post the first line you find at the top of page 200 in a comment to this post. Make sure to include your name if you post anonymously.

And you're done. {s}

Rules:
--you have until noon Mountain Standard Time on Monday, January 22
--one entry per person
--two people will win, by random drawing
--each winner will get to choose one book from those pictured below, and I'll send it along to you
--if you have questions, feel free to email me at susan dot adrian @ yahoo.com

The Books:

What? Apparently I had a Jane Austen theme going on there for a while. {s} Anyway, I highly recommend all these books for various reasons. I'll be intrigued to see which ones the winners choose.

Have at it!

Susan,

Well heck, I'll play along. I've never read any of these books...and I'm a HUGE Jane Austen fan..go figure.

Okay...my top line on page 200 is a little, well short -- so I'll include the first 3.

From Faking It by Jennifer Hendren (c) 2006

“Oh?”
“How do you go and work in a factory every day? I mean, just look at you.”
What the hell did she mean by that? “Pardon me?”

I'll play. With my WIP all broken up into pieces, I have no idea where page 200 might be, if it even exists *g*, so I'm picking up a random book from the shelf above my desk... (closing my eyes and reaching up....) I ended up pulling out _Wild Mind_ by Natalie Goldberg. The first full sentence on page 200 is "Everyone in that class was dying for human contact."

Suze,

"You were going to try to sweet-talk me into putting this guy's bare @ss in my squad car."

P.S. You didn't say we had to tell what book it's from...{eg}

Okay, I'll play.

"If only he knew the real purpose concealed beneath that great hall, he wouldn't have so blatantly tarnished the faith of good Christians everywhere; I doubted they would take kindly to worshipping within walls housing dangerous faerie."

I just happen to have a book in my purse with me...

He grasped Mara's wrist. "The silk is not lost," He gasped clearly. "Not all of it."

Have a great 200th post day!

Okay, I'll play! I don't have a page 200 yet - my WIP is still in fragments - so I'm pulling from the book in my office at work. (I keep one of my 3 copies here for days like today when I need reading material and don't have anything else with me.) Everyone will probably recognize it. *g*

"We rode out of the gates of Castle Leoch two days later, just before dawn."

(That's actually from page 203, since pages 200-202 don't have writing.)

Happy 200th post! Here's my entry:

"Is it actually possible that there are people who can eat I Can't Believe It's Not Butter and not believe it's not butter?"

"Without my syrup, I wouldn't get a wink of sleep," said Mrs. Long.

Whew, I'm glad the first line of page 200 isn't a spoiler since I haven't read that far yet. :)

Hi Susan,
Wait for me, I want to play.

In the living room of the Jackson home, the mourners filed past the open casket for one last opportunity to pay their respects before the funeral service began.

Mine's pretty short -- "I need those photographs from you."

Yes. I do have a WIP. It does have a page 200. That does have a first line!

And it is ...

What did they plan to do with that stack of incriminating bank receipts and ledgers? Ignore it? Set it on fire?

Ah. One of the great questions of the age.

Ok, here's mine:
"I'm going to fight until I can't fight any more. If I die, you're stuck like this."

Hmm.

OK, I'm in.

From One Chrysanthemum by Joan Itoh Burk:

"A waning moon made a bright crescent-shaped scratch in the dark sky over the ancient city of Kamakura as Kensho folded his poem paper into the shape of a horse."

Happy 200th post! this is a great idea (and I say that with no bias). This is the first line on page 200 of Under the Rose (the sequel to Secret Society Girl):

“Maybe she didn’t do it for the money,” I said, stifling a yawn.

There you have it, folks.

A fun game with great prizes! Thanks for the opportunity to play.

Here's the line from my page 200:

"She turned and laughed, a hollow sound tinged with regret. 'Nicolas, it’s among the damned you’ll find me on Judgement Day, if Calvin’s way be true.'"

Congrats on the 200, Suze! The only book I have handy is my study Bible. (Er, no I'm not to lazy to go upstairs and get a book, why do you ask?)

And he shall sprinkle upon him that is to be cleaned from the leprosy seven times, and shall pronounce him clean, and shall let the living bird loose into the open field.

Sounds a little like Yoda. :)

Hokey, trying again. From The Scent of Shadows:

Carl scoffed. "Oh, sure, you're all Britney Spears on the outside, with your blond hair and rack out to here..."
