Removing the negativity

A couple of not-original, but very true thoughts:

--Mean people suck.

--Negativity drags everyone down.

Because of the surfeit of negativity and people dealing meanly with each other, I've had to leave one of my previously favorite online communities. This makes me sad, but it's been getting more and more negative there for a couple of years, so I guess it's not going to change real soon. I just don't need that kind of thing pulling me down.

I shall strive to keep those places I have a responsibility for positive and supportive. Sarcastic and silly, you bet! Mean, no.

Susan,

Oh no. :(

I can see from your sidebar which one you're talking about. Aaack. I'm so sorry to hear this. It has been a bit combative recently...hopefully it will die down soon. I hate that the project I'm involved with has been dominated by a handful of loud and rather obnoxious voices. It's been tough to handle for a lot of us.

I really hope this isn't permanent.

Jen:

I'll try it again in a month or two--I've made so many good friends there. But you understand? There's just a point where something's not good for you anymore, at least for a while. Every time I visit, I leave feeling either angry or sad.

In the meantime, trying other places, and networking other ways, is good. {s}

Fair enough. I'll be sure to poke you every now and then. (g)

I understand how you feel. I've been a bit wary myself lately. But I hope your absence is temporary.

Thanks, Precie! It's not like you don't know where to find me, anyway. :)

Hi Susan,
I can relate. I posted something similar on my blog. I have left this group also, I doubt I'll go back. It's really sad that it is allowed to happen. I'm sorry it happened to you as well.

Susan (and Carol),

Sorry to hear this, though I can see where you're coming from (I haven't participated in Jen's "project" :-), but have peeked into enough of those threads to see what you mean...)

Hi Sara,
Thank you.

Hi Carol!

Thanks. Actually, nothing "happened" to me--I just got tired of seeing all the negativity fly by. I was starting to absorb it. I don't need that! :)

I'm not naive enough to think that I won't go back and check it out again eventually. I've been going there for 8+ years, and have a lot of good friends that have come from that connection. I'm just gonna give it a break!

Hope you have other writer support that makes you happier. :)

Thanks, Sara!

I don't want to make anyone feel bad. Enough of that! I just need to go be positive for a while. {g}

Hi Susan:

I haven't been around the place I think you're talking about for a while, but I feel less bad about that, now. I don't know what you mean by "mean," having been absent, but I can certainly understand your decision. The writing comes first, and anything that interferes has Got to Go, whether it's taking up your time or messing with your frame of mind. I hope that by the time you (and I) go back, things have shifted back to the encouraging, friendly place it was.

Hi Susan,
Aw, I'm sorry to hear how things have become. I've not be in a long time; I swore it off last year, not because I didn't like it there, but because I needed more time to write. It makes me sad to hear things are growing "mean".

Anywho, keep writing! I hope to see you in Oct.

Best,
Amy

Yep. Well, anything non-essential. :)

Amy: I'll be there in October! Hope you can come!
